Painted in 2008, this work measures 61cm x 86cm. It is currently stretched and ready to hang, with the artist’s signature featured on the back of the canvas.

The Bush Yam (Ipomoea costata) is a staple plant that grows across Utopia. Its tuberous roots provided an important source of food for generations and remain central to ceremony and song. In Dreamtime stories, the Ancestral Yams spread their vines and roots across the land, creating networks of knowledge and connection.
Jeannie’s paintings map the root systems of the yam beneath the surface of the desert sands, with long, linear brushstrokes representing vines and tangled paths. The dotting she layers over the surface depicts seeds, flowers, and the cycle of regeneration.
The Anaty Dreaming not only speaks to physical nourishment but also embodies the spiritual connection between women, land, and culture. Through her work, Jeannie ensures that these sacred narratives continue to thrive visually and culturally, with each canvas a testament to survival, continuity, and the enduring gift of Country.
